SRESSS exists as the student body within SRES to bring students, faculty, staff and alumni together; to organize social and outdoor events; and to promote interests of the SRES students in their related disciplines and future professions. Each student entering the School for Resource and Environmental Studies at Dalhousie University becomes a member of SRESSS and, as such, becomes part of the legislative body.
The student body nominates and elects our executive members at general meetings, held in December and March each year. The current executive members are:
Co-chairs: Rebecca McNeil (MES); Bryan Adkins (MREM)
Secretary: Zena Wright
Treasurer: Melanie MacDonald
Social Commitee: Paul Sylvestre, Stephen Roberts
SRES Outreach: Sarah Keyes (external); Ella Bennett (internal)
As representatives of SRES students, our objectives include:
The SRESSS Constitution outlines the specific duties of the Executive.
Constitutional obligations aside, we on the executive have a lot of fun brainstorming new and fun activities for fellow students each term. In addition to planning an action-packed orientation week each year, we hold two major parties each year (winter & end-of-year), and organize various outings for hiking, eagle watching, camping, curling – whatever! We strongly believe that the creation of a fun and welcoming atmosphere for new students is equally important as the promotion of an open and fair learning environment for the entire student body at SRES.
